Dirty Jobs

About thirty minutes north of Portland is Vancouver Lake, home to a 2000-meter buoyed racecourse that is maintained and utilized by the Portland Vancouver Regatta Association (PVRA), of which Lewis & Clark is a member.  We host 1-2 college regattas at the site each year, and the Northwest Junior Regional regatta is almost always held there as well.

This winter the course sustained some serious damage, either due to high water, ice, or storm- we don’t really know.  Today we took a launch up to the course and joined coaches from several other area junior and masters clubs to try to sort out the mess.

Five hours later, in wonderfully unseasonably warm and calm conditions, much progress has been made.  But it’s messy work; we think Mike Rowe would be put to shame (the smell is especially bad).

It’s worth it to see a perfect, ruler-straight course when the time comes for the NCRC Invitational and the NCRC championships.
